AC Cars Limited

AC Cars are Britain’s oldest car manufacturers having been producing cars since 1901. Founded by John Weller and John Portwine.  The company name comes from an early model, the Auto Carrier, pictured.  1911 moved to larger premises, the Ferry Works in Thames Ditton, a short distance from Brooklands Racetrack.

In 1962 Carroll Shelby asked AC Cars to put a Ford V8 engine into one of their existing models, the Ace.  The resultant vehicle was the AC Cobra.
