Agnes Garrett

Agnes Garrett

Agnes Garrett was an English suffragist and interior designer and creator of residential accommodation for independent working women in London.

Sister to Elizabeth Garrett Anderson and Millicent Fawcett. Cousin to Rhoda Garrett

Born Aldeburgh. See Rhoda Garrett for their architectural training and the interior design business that they ran together, and a photo of them together. After Rhoda's death in 1882 Agnes carried on the business until 1905.

1888-1931 she also served as a director of the new Ladies’ Residential Chambers Company (and/or the Ladies Dwellings Company, accounts differ), which built several blocks of chambers in Bloomsbury and Marylebone for independent working women, such as teachers.

Died at her home, 2 Gower Street.
