Aidan Michael Marley

The carries an 'in memoriam' for Marley, from his parents and his nieces and nephews. He was aged only 21 when he died.  Presumably he was one of the congregation at St Johns but for him to share a memorial stone at the church with the priest of 25 years suggests he, or his death, was significant in some way, other than just his youth.

Our colleague, Andrew Behan, advises that the birth of Aidan Michael Marley on 31 August 1978 was registered in the 4th quarter of 1978 in Camden Registration District, London and the maiden name of his mother was Boyce.

There is a website set up in his memory on on which it is stated that "Aidan was one of eight, two brothers; Pat and Cathal and five sisters; Catheda, Anne-marie, Thelma, Noreen and Leigh (me). His life was tragically cut short when he was murdered at the age of 21, sadly, right by his home in Islington- Justice has never been served. Aidan went to St Johns primary school and St Aloysius secondary. He was a keen boxer from a young age, and trained with the Angel ABC. It was definitely a passion of his which he had planned to pursue by eventually opening his own boxing club and training kids ... sadly this dream was shattered. Aidan spent many holidays in Donegal, Ireland where our parents Nora and Pat are originally from. We have many cousins over there who were very fond of Aidan and often speak of his loss like 'losing a brother'". There are many photographs of this man on the website.

He is shown as 'Aidan Marley' on the joint Haines and Marley plaque attached to the St John the Evangelist Church in Duncan Terrace, London, N1.
