Albert Crowley

Albert Crowley was born in 1920, a son of James Crowley (1891-1950) and Jane Crowley née Friend (1887-1951). His birth was registered in the 1st quarter of 1920 in the Shoreditch registration district.

He had several siblings, including James Patrick Crowley (1912-1981), Patrick Crowley (1916-1918), John Crowley (1923-1991), Rose Caroline Crowley (1926-1998) and Violet Crowley (1931-1982).

Electoral registers from 1922 to 1936 list his parents at 11 Penn Street, Shoreditch and from 1937 at 29 Clift Street, Shoreditch. The 1939 England and Wales Register shows them still there and gives his father's occupation as a newsvendor.

He joined the 5th Battalion, The Buffs (Royal East Kent Regiment), service number 6146099, and was killed in action, aged 22 years, on 6 January 1943 in Tunisia, North Africa.

As he has no known grave he is commemorated on Face 15 of the Medjez-el-Bab Memorial within the Medjez-el-Baz War Cemetery, Medjez-el-Baz, Tunisia.
