Alfred Baggs

Alfred Baggs was born in 1920 and his birth was registered in the Shoreditch registration district, his mother's maiden name being recorded as Stevens.

According to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission he was the son of George Alfred and Harriet Baggs and the wife of Ivy Baggs of West Ham. I was unable to trace a Harriet Stevens marrying a George Alfred Baggs, but was able to find a marriage on 15 July 1906 at Holy Trinity Church, Hoxton between a George Frederick Baggs (1882-1958) and a Harriet Stevens (1882-1965).

In 1941 he married Ivy Cox (1914-2002) in Hitchin, Hertfordshire.

He was a Fusilier in the 8th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment), service number 6472879, and was killed in action, aged 23 years, on 16 February 1944.

As he has no known grave he is commemorated on of the Cassino Memorial in the Cassino War Cemetery, Cassino, Italy.

The nearest match we can find is "The Abruzzo and Molise Heritage Society of the Washington, D.C. Area" but it's unlikely that they installed the Tosti plaque in London.
