Alice M. Cross

Died aged five years. Andrew Behan has kindly carried out some research on this little girl. Alice Maud Cross was born on 16 March 1912 in Poplar, a daughter of Edward Alfred Cross and Isabella Ann Cross née Easton. Her father was a Box and Packing Case Maker. On 31 March 1912 she was baptised at St Gabriel's Church, Chrisp Street, Poplar and the family is recorded as living at 6 Flint Avenue, Poplar. They moved to 12 Wade Street, Poplar. She attended Upper North Street School, Poplar and died here on 13 June 1917 as a result of a bomb from a German aeroplane that killed a total of 18 children. She was buried on 20 June 1917 in a mass grave at the East London Cemetery and Crematorium, 260a Grange Road, Plaistow.
