Arthur Sullivan, VC

Banker and soldier. Born Arthur Percy Sullivan at Crystal Brook, South Australia. As a volunteer in the North Russia Relief Force in 1919, his platoon came under heavy fire. An officer and three soldiers fell into a deep swamp and Sullivan managed to rescue all four of them and was awarded the Victoria Cross for his bravery. After the war he returned to his banking career. As a V.C. winner he was chosen to join the Australian contingent at the coronation of King George VI, but before this could happen he slipped and fell in Birdcage Walk, dying soon after from head injuries. covers this story in more detail and points to the for even more detail.
