Barbara Jessie Halford was born on 5 June 1920, the younger of the two children of Ebenezer Sidney Halford (1883-1969) and Emma Halford née Milton (1881-1950). Her birth was registered in the 3rd quarter of 1920 in the Barnet Registration District, Middlesex (later Hertfordshire and now Greater London). Her elder sister was Kathleen Joan Halford (1915-1978).
Her father's residence was listed at 88 Brunswick Crescent, New Southgate, in the 1925 edition of Kelly's Directory of Barnet.
The 1939 England and Wales Register shows her as Barbara J. Halford, single, a daily domestic who was born on 5 June 1920 and living at 17 Carlton Road, Friern Barnet, London, N11, with: her father - a caretaker; her mother - on unpaid domestic duties and her sister - a shorthand typist.
She was killed on 28 February 1975 in the Moorgate tube disaster and her death was registered in the 2nd quarter of 1975 in the London City Registration District where her date of birth was confirmed as 5 June 1920. .
Probate records show her date of death as 4 March 1975 (this was probably the date her death was certified as it took several days for all the bodies to be extracted from the train wreckage). Her address was recorded as 53 Hind House, Harvist Estate, Hornsey Road, London, N7 and that when probate was granted on 4 July 1975 her effects totalled £4,258.
The claims that she was buried on 10 March 1975 in Section 19, Row 8, Grave 17, in Durrington Cemetery, Findon Road, Worthing, BN14 0AB.
She is shown as 'HALFORD, BARBARA' on the Moorgate tube disaster memorial in Finsbury Square, London, EC2.
