BBC Overseas Services

Worldwide radio service. Originally founded as the BBC Empire Service for English speakers across the British Empire.

In 1938, foreign languages were introduced, and the name of the station was changed to BBC Overseas Services. In 1965 it became the BBC World Service and currently (2022) transmits in 40+ languages.

While the plaque is in Market Place the building occupied by the BBC also had the address 200 Oxford Street.
