Buddy Holly

Musician and singer-songwriter. Born as Charles Hardin Holley in Lubbock, Texas. With his backing group The Crickets, he achieved considerable pop chart success with songs such as 'That'll be the Day'. 'Peggy Sue' and 'Rainin' in my Heart'. On a tour of the midwestern US, flying to a concert venue in inclement weather, his plane crashed, killing him and fellow musicians Ritchie Valens and J. P. Richardson (known as the 'Big Bopper'). The Don Maclean song 'American Pie', repeatedly mentions 'The day the music died', which refers to the plane crash.
