Cardboard City was the name for an informal settlement consisting of temporary cardboard shelters that occupied a site, known as the Bullring, near Waterloo station. It was lived in by homeless people from c.1978 - 98, and was eventually closed after a High Court order led to its redevelopment as the BFI IMAX cinema. Princess Diana visited and met some of the residents in 1994.
St. John's church Waterloo provided daytime support to these residents.
