Col. Humphrey Mackworth

Col. Humphrey Mackworth

Appointed governor of Shrewsbury in 1645 and was a colonel in Cromwell's Parliamentary army. Died in London and was buried in Westminster Abbey.

When Charles II was restored to the throne he ordered the disinterment of the bodies of Oliver Cromwell and his supporters, including Mackworth, and their reburial in an unmarked pit in St Margaret's churchyard, Westminster.
