Cornet William George Hawtrey Bankes

Died as a result of serving in the Indian War 1857-8. HM 7th Hussars VC. Wikipedia gives his middle name as Hawtry.

Educated at Westminster School. Enlisted in the army in 1857. He was awarded the VC for "thrice charging a body of infuriated fanatics" on 19 March 1858 near Lucknow, during the Indian Rebellion.

His name appears on a . that page gives: "William George Hawtrey Bankes was awarded the Victoria Cross during the Indian Mutiny. He was the fifth son of George Bankes,  government official who lived in a house near Poets' Corner, and was born on 11 September 1836 and educated at Westminster School and Cambridge university. He died at Lucknow 6 April 1858 from wounds received at Raptee. .... There is a memorial to him in Wimborne Minster, Dorset."
