Corporal Charles Roy Robinson

Charles Roy Robinson was born on 11 March 1918 in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, the youngest of the nine children of George Robinson (1872-1954) and Elizabeth Harvey Robinson née Johnson (1873-1949). His birth was registered in the 2nd quarter of 1918 in the Rochford Registration District, Essex and his father was a fisherman.

His eight siblings were: Rose Adelaide Robinson (1897-1995); Lilian Jane Robinson (1899-1900); George Edward Robinson (1901-1999); Mabel Elizabeth Robinson (1903-1957); Violet Rebecca Robinson (1905-2001); Gladys Daisy Robinson (1908-1999); Ivy Maud Robinson (1909-2004) and Freda Grace Robinson (1914-1998).

His date of birth was given in the 1939 England and Wales Register in which he was shown as an insurance clerk (Lloyds), living at 15 Grange Road, Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, with his parents and three of his sisters: Rosa Adelaide Robinson, a dressmaker; Violet Rebecca Robinson, a nursing clerk and Freda Grace Robinson, an insurance clerk. All three sisters were also listed as Wardens in the Air Raid Precautions service, whilst his father was shown as a shipwright's assistant. 

He was serving as a Corporal in the 2nd Battalion, Hampshire Regiment, service number 6024856, when he died as a casualty of war, aged 26 years on 4 December 1944. His body was originally buried in the 46th Division's No.9 Cemetery, but on 15 March 1945 he was exhumed and , in the Faenza British Empire Cemetery (now known at the Faenza War Cemetery, Via Santa Lucia 14 - 48018 Faenza, Italy. 

He is shown as 'ROBINSON, CHARLES ROY' on the at 12 Leadenhall Street, London, EC3V 1LP. He is also commemorated on the .
