Councillor Sam Elsbury

Councillor Sam Elsbury

In 1926 Elsbury was a Bethnal Green councillor and member of Housing Committee, Parmiter Street and the Baths Committee.

Probably married to Rebecca, or brother; some relation surely.

2025: Peter sent us this photo saying it is a photo of Sam Elsbury when he was General Secretary of the United Clothing Worker's Trade Union, taken from the 1929 "Rego and Polikoff Strike Songs" published by that Union. have a copy (of a 1983 reprint).

That Hackney Museum page describes Elsbury's strike-leading activities and affiliation with the Communist Party. He worked closely with Sara Wesker (aunt to Arnold Wesker).
