The 1939 England and Wales Register, that was compiled on 29 September 1939 to enable National Identity Cards to be issued, records him as a married man who was the Stationmaster of the Eastern Bengal Railway Company at Calcutta, India, who had been on furlough leave when war was declared and was living at 245 Barking Road, West Ham.
He moved to 287 Burdett Road, Limehouse and was a driver for the London Auxiliary Ambulance Service when he died, aged 46 years, on 18 September 1940 when a high explosive bomb fell on Saunders Ness Road School, Isle of Dogs, London, E.14, that was being used as Auxiliary Fire Service Sub Station No.35U. He is also commemorated in the Civilian War Dead Roll of Honour, located near St. George's Chapel in Westminster Abbey.
