Andrew Behan has kindly provided this research: Cyril Swerner was born in 1914 in Mile End, the second son and child of the five children of Israel Swerner (1890-1964) and Fanny Swerner née Cohen (1884-1964). 

Electoral registers from 1934 to 1939 show the family living at 39 Morgan Street, Stepney. 

He was an A.R.P. Stretcher Bearer and died, aged 25 years, on 18 September 1940 when a high explosive bomb fell on Saunders Ness Road School, Isle of Dogs, London, E.14, that was being used as Auxiliary Fire Service Sub Station No.35U. He was buried in Plot A, Row 19, Grave 30, in the Rainham Jewish Cemetery, 416 Upminster Road North, Rainham, RM13 9SB. He is also commemorated in the Civilian War Dead Roll of Honour, located near St. George's Chapel in Westminster Abbey.
