Dame Elizabeth Lane DBE

Barrister and judge. From : "She was the first woman appointed as a judge in the County Court, and the first female High Court judge in England. She is most extraordinary since she had no formal university education gaining a career in law by her own means." Born Elizabeth Kathleen Coulborn in Cheshire.

Randall Lane CBE was her husband. They met in Montreal in 1924 when Elizabeth was staying with her brother, Rushton. They married in 1926 and it was her husband's law studies that prompted her to enter the law.
