Daniel Barrett

Daniel was brother to Harriet and Thomas.  He lived in or near Three Colt Street and died in or before 1886.

Daniel Barrett was born on 29 December 1806 in Bloomsbury, Middlesex (now Greater London), the second of the nine children of Paul Barrett (1781-1846) and Elizabeth Barrett (b. circa 1778). His eight siblings were: Thomas Barrett (1805-1875); William Major Barrett (1810-1860); Eleanor Barrett (1813-1877); Mary Elizabeth Barrett (1815-1877); James Barrett (1815-1877); Harriet Barrett (1816-1897); John Barrett (1818-1902) and Paulina Barrett (1821-1888).

On 18 October 1807 both he and his brother, Thomas Barrett, were baptised at Lady Huntingdon's Spa Fields Chapel, Clerkenwell, Middlesex (now Greater London), where the baptismal register confirms his date of birth and that he was born in the parish of Bloomsbury.

In the 1841 census he is shown as a grocer living in High Street, Shadwell, Middlesex (now Greater London), together with his brother James Barrett who was also listed as a grocer, his sister Paulina Barrett, together with a male grocer's assistant and a female domestic servant.

When the 1851 census was undertaken he was shown as aged 44 years, a grocer and tea dealer, living at 24 Three Colt Street, Limehouse, Middlesex (now Greater London), with his sister Harriet Barrett who was described as a housekeeper, together with five male tea dealer assistants and a female house servant.

At the time of the 1861 census he was shown as aged 54 years, a retired grocer who was also a proprietor of houses and fund holder, residing at 7 St John's Villas, Holloway Road, Islington, Middlesex (now Greater London), with his sister Harriet Barrett, a proprietor of houses and fund holder, together  with a female general servant.

He was still living at 7 St John's Villas, Holloway Road, Islington, according to the 1871 census that shows him as aged 64 years and a retired grocer. Also residing there was his sister, Harriet Barrett, who was receiving an income from houses and investments, together with a female general servant.

His death, aged 73 years, was registered in the 3rd quarter of 1880 in the Islington Registration District, Middlesex. Probate records show that on 6 October 1880 a Will with a Codicil of Daniel Barrett of 7 St John's Villas, Upper Holloway in the County of Middlesex who died on 5 September 1880 at 7 St John's Villas, was proved at the Principal Registry by Joseph Thomas Loach of 193 Mile End Road, in the said county, a tea dealer and nephew who was one of the executors. His personal estate was shown as under £16,000.
