Dodie Smith

Author and playwright, Born Lancashire. Wrote 'The Hundred and One Dalmations' and 'I Capture the Castle'. 

Born Lancashire but in 1910 her mother remarried and they moved to London. Did some acting and script-writing but still needed in 1923 to take a job as the toy-buyer for Heal's, where she took the chairman, Ambrose Heal as her lover. Here she also met her future husband Alec Macbeth Beesley.

Died at home in Essex, leaving £2,000 for the care of Charley, her seventh and last Dalmatian.
