Captain in the Royal Field Artillery. Awarded the Victoria Cross for his actions on 26th August 1914 at Le Cateau, France.

Awarded the VC for his heroism on 26 August 1914, age 31, while serving in the Royal Field Artillery. "Through determination and personal example he got his guns to safety in the face of the enemy advance, an act of extreme gallantry. (Le Cateau, France)". Freemason at: â„–2998, Kitchener Lodge.
