Artist. Born Edward Jeffrey Irving Ardizzone of French/Italian stock in Haiphong, Tonkin (modern day Vietnam) where his father was working at the time. He came to Britain in 1905, and eventually studied art in evening classes. His best known work was as a war artist, particularly with the British Expeditionary Force in WW2.
