Member of the Chelsea Vestry Hall Building Committee in 1885. Member of the Metropolitan Board of Works 1873–85.

In 1879 he was Chairman of the Vestry and so played an important role in the: Lambeth Bridge; Vauxhall Bridge; Albert Bridge; Battersea Bridge; Chelsea Bridge.
