Anti-slavery campaigner. Born Dorset. Trained in law and worked for a time in the Carribean where he saw the cruelty to slaves and became an abolitionist. The death of his first wife deepened his religious convictions. He moved to Clapham and became involved in the Clapham Sect to the extent of making William Wilberforce's sister his second wife. Great-grandfather of Virginia Woolf. Died at Bath.
