Edward Montague Nelson

Edward Montague Nelson

Businessman and local politician. Born Warwick but spent most of his working life in London. His businesses tended to have colonial, especially Australian, connections.

Lived at Hanger Hill House, Ealing, and took an active part in the local government of the area. Member of Middlesex County Council, justice of the peace for the County of Middlesex and High Sheriff of Middlesex for 1892. As part of the celebrations of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee in 1897 he was made a Knight Commander of St Michael and St George "for services rendered in connection with the Australasian Colonies, and recognition of his public services". Chairman of Ealing Urban District Council 1895-1901, when he became Charter Mayor.

1914: Director of Bank of Australasia.

In retirement he returned to Warwick, and was serving as mayor of that town when he died from a seizure, aged 78.
