Elizabeth Cromwell

This is not Oliver Cromwell's wife, née Elizabeth Bourchier (1598–1665), step-granddaughter and god child to William Sebright. The restored Charles II, surprisingly, left that Elizabeth Cromwell to live out her years in Northamptonshire, where she died and was buried in Northborough church.

This is Oliver Cromwell's mother, née Elizabeth Steward (c.1564 – 1654) who married, probably in 1591 and gave birth to 10 children, Oliver being the only boy to survive infancy. She was widowed in 1617 and left with 7 unmarried daughters, Oliver having already left home.

When Charles II was restored to the throne he ordered the disinterment of the bodies of Oliver Cromwell and his supporters, including Elizabeth Cromwell, and their reburial in an unmarked pit in St Margaret's churchyard, Westminster.
