Elizabeth Mary Rawlinson was born on 17 June 1894 in Bethnal Green, London, a daughter of Edward John Rawlinson (1869-1943) and Elizabeth Rawlinson née Bryant (1872-1937). Her birth was registered in the 3rd quarter of 1894 in the Islington Registration District, London.
On 20 June 1904 she was admitted into Somerford Street School, Bethnal Green. The school admission register confirmed her date of birth, that her father was a carman and the family was living at 8 King Street, Bethnal Green. It also showed that she had not attended a school for months, having been ill and that educationally she was four years behind. Somerford Street School was renamed Stewart Headlam School in 1924 and is now known as Stewart Headlam Primary School.
When her father completed his census return form on 2 April 1911 she was shown as Elizabeth Rawlinson, aged 16 years and a rag sorter, living in two rooms at 17 Victoria Cottages, Ford Street, Bow, London, with her parents and three siblings: Caroline Charlotte Rawlinson (1898-1953); Richard Edward Rawlinson (1901-1966) and Annie Ruth Rawlinson (1904-1983). Her father described himself as a coal porter.
She married Edward Ettridge (1891-1973) in the 2nd quarter of 1915 in the Bethnal Green Registration District. They were to have six children: Edward James Ettridge (1917-1940); Doris Elizabeth Ettridge (1920-1999); Sidney Edward Ettridge (1923-1995); Marie Elizabeth Ettridge (1925-1991); Hilda Elizabeth Ettridge (1930-2016) and David Edward Ettridge (1932-1940).
Her husband completed his census return form on 19 June 1921 and she was described as aged 26 years and housewife, living in four rooms at 140 Coventry Street, London, E2, with her husband and their two children: Edward James Ettridge, aged 3 years, 9 months and Doris Elizabeth Ettridge, aged 1 year, 6 months. Her husband described himself as aged 29 years, 7 months and a carman employed by Carter Paterson Carriers at Goswell Road, London, EC1.
When the England and Wales Register was compiled on 29 September 1939 she was listed as on unpaid domestic duties and living at 30 Edwy House, Homerton Road, London, E9, with her husband - a wood machinist drum sander and their six children: Edward James Ettridge - a wood machinist cross sawyer; Doris Elizabeth Ettridge - a ladies underwear presser; Sidney Edward Ettridge - a learner cabinet maker; Marie Elizabeth Ettridge - a ladies tailor learner; Hilda Elizabeth Ettridge - attending school and David Edward Ettridge who was also attending school.
She was killed by a German bomb that fell on the Columbia Market air raid shelter on the night of 7th/8th September 1940 and her death was registered as aged 46 years in the 3rd quarter of 1940 in the Bethnal Green Registration District, London. It is not known where her .
She is shown as 'ETTRIDGE Elizabeth 46' on the Columbia Market air raid shelter memorial in the Rose Garden, Old Market Square, Ravenscroft Park, London, E2.
She is also commemorated on the , on the and in that is kept just outside the entrance to St George's Chapel at the west end of Westminster Abbey.
