Elizabeth Wolstenholme Elmy

Secretary of Married Women’s Property Committee, Secularist and sexual radical, lived in ‘free love’ union with Benjamin John Elmy (1838 - 1906) who worked closely with her on the campaigns. Only when she became pregnant and colleagues insisted did they actually marry. Founding member of Women’s Franchise League, and the Women’s Emancipation Union. She wrote essays and some poetry, using the pseudonyms E and Ignota.

Born as Elizabeth Clarke Wolstenholme in Manchester and spent most of her life in the area around that city.
