Political activist and writer. Born in what is now Lithuania. Emigrated to US 1885. Her first husband was impotent. Lover and life-long friend of Alexander Berkman. Imprisoned and then deported from the US. Moved to London in 1924. Again threatened with deportation she made a marriage of convenience in 1925 with a Scottish anarchist which gave her British citizenship and allowed her to travel. Considered that emancipated women had added drudgery at work to the drudgery at home, and needed to be emancipated from emancipation itself. Died in Toronto.
