G. R. Strachan

George Richardson Strachan. Surveyor to the Chelsea Vestry in 1885.

From : In 1887 Strachan designed the  public garden which was created out of the disused burial ground around St Luke's church, Sydney Street. This involved moving most of the stones.

: "Chelsea. — On the 17th inst. there was a gathering at the Chelsea Town Hall of gentlemen concerned in the local government of Chelsea, for the purpose of making various presentations to Mr. G. R. Strachan, C.E., on the occasion of his retirement from the post of Surveyor to the Vestry of Chelsea. The chair was taken by Earl Cadogan....." He would have needed a suitcase and a furniture van to take home all the goodies with which he and his wife were presented.
