George A. Hyde

Died aged five years. Andrew Behan has kindly carried out some research on this little boy. George Albert Hyde was born in 1912, his birth being registered in the 2nd quarter of 1912 in Orsett, Essex, the eldest son of George Hyde and Lilian Eliza Hyde née Salmon. His father was a Salesman. He had two younger brothers, Stanley William Bruce Hyde who was born in January 1914 in Gravesend, Kent and Bertram Wilfred Hyde who was born in May 1916 in West Ham, so it would appear that the family moved home quite frequently. They eventually moved to 82 Upper North Street, Poplar. He attended Upper North Street School, Poplar and died here, aged 5 years, on 13 June 1917 as a result of a bomb from a German aeroplane that killed a total of 18 children. He was buried on 20 June 1917 in a mass grave at the East London Cemetery and Crematorium, 260a Grange Road, Plaistow.
