George Borrow

Writer and traveller. Born George Henry Borrow, East Dereham, Norfolk. He travelled widely throughout Europe and Morocco and was also a great linguist.
He caused a minor scandal, when, in a translation of Faust, he lampooned the people of Norwich, resulting in his first publication being publicly burned.
Principal works include 'Lavengro' and 'The Romany Rye'. Died, Oulton, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.
