George Reginald Cohen, M.B.E.

Footballer. Born George Reginald Cohen in Kensington. He spent his entire career playing for Fulham and was in the winning England team in the 1966 World Cup.

George Reginald Cohen was born on 22 October 1939, a son of Lewis Henry Cohen and Kate K. Cohen née Gibbs. His birth was registered in the 4th quarter of 1939 in the Fulham Registration District, London.

He married Daphne G. Church (b.1940) in the 3rd quarter of 1962 in the Wood Green Registration District, Middlesex (now Greater London) and they had two sons: Andrew G. Cohen (b.1965) and Anthony Peter Cohen (b.1967) whose births were both registered in the Surrey Mid Eastern Registration District.

Electoral registers in 1962 show him and his wife listed at 88 Rhodrons Avenue, Chessington, Surrey (now Greater London). In 2003-2004 they were shown at 13 East Cliff Road, Tunbridge Wells, TN4 9AE and in 2013-2014 at 14 Copperfields, Tunbridge Wells. TN2 5HZ.

He was made a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to Association Football in the 2000 New Year Honours List.

His and newspaper confirm that he died, aged 83 years, on 23 December 2022.

He is shown as 'GEORGE COHEN' on the World Cup Winners 1966 memorial statue located at the junction of Barking Road and Green Street, London, E6.
