George Russell Bruce

Pilot Officer George Russell Bruce was born on 12 August 1914 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, the son of George Arthur Bruce (1890-1946) and Grace Daisy Bruce née Russell (b.1889). His sister was Grace Helen Bruce (1916-2000) who was also born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

He moved to the United States of America in 1934 and his family relocated to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. In 1940 he joined the , service number 67580, and in 1941 was assigned to located at RAF Biggin Hill.

He died, aged 27 years, on 23 October 1941 when his Hawker Hurricane MkII, serial number Z3649, returning from an operational flight, crashed into trees near Eglington, County Londonderry, Northern Ireland. His body was buried in , Killylane Road, Eglinton, Londonderry, BT47 3DW.
