Grace Jones

Died aged five years. Andrew Behan has kindly carried out some research on this little girl. Grace Matilda Jones was born on 16 March 1912 in Poplar, the younger daughter of William Christmas Jones and Matilda Jones, née Ferguson. Her father was a Butcher. On 22 May 1912 she was baptised at St Matthias Church, Poplar High Street and the family is recorded as living at 28 Woodstock Road, Poplar. The street has subsequently been renamed and is now Woodstock Terrace. They moved to 51 Chrisp Street, Poplar from where she attended the Upper North Street School, Poplar and died there, aged 5 years, on 13 June 1917 as a result of a bomb from a German aeroplane that killed a total of 18 children. On 20 June 1917 she was buried at Abney Park Cemetery. have an image of her headstone.
