Grace Wyndham Goldie

BBC executive and pioneer of political coverage on television.

Born Grace Murrell Nisbet in Scotland. Spent much of her childhood in Egypt, where her father worked as a civil engineer. 1928 she married Frank Goldie, an actor who used the stage name Wyndham Goldie.

Worked for The Listener 1935-41, then at the Board of Trade 1942-44.  Rejoined the BBC in 1944 as a radio producer. In 1947, she moved to the Television Talks Department. Was a British producer and executive in television for twenty years, particularly in the fields of politics and current affairs. Directly responsible for early election television coverage and programs such as Panorama, first aired in 1953. She was one of the few senior women at the BBC, an establishment dominated by men.

Retired from the BBC in 1965 but remained involved and made recommendations on the BBC’s archiving policy.

Died Kensingon.
