Gunner Robert Henry Walter Trigg

Robert Henry Walter Trigg was born circa 1903 in Camberley, Surrey, the eldest son of Walter Trigg (1874-1967) and Sarah Ann Trigg née Gale (1870-1944). His birth was registered in the 1st quarter of 1903 in the Farnham Registration District, Surrey. On 26 January 1903 he was baptised at St Michael’s Church, Yorktown, Camberley, Surrey, where the baptismal register shows that his resided at Barossa Road, Camberley and that his father was a carpenter.

He is shown as aged 8 years on the census return form completed by his father on 2 April 1911. He was living in a five roomed property at 4 Kings Ride, Camberley, with his parents and his two brothers: Charles Alfred John Trigg (1906-1988) and Richard William James Trigg (1910-1991). His father described himself as a journeyman carpenter.

From 1931 to 1937 he lived at Hope Fountain, Camberley, before moving to 79 Parkfield Road, Feltham, Middlesex (now Greater London). In July 1937 he was appointed as a postman in the London Postal Region and the 1938 and 1939 electoral registers show him living at 9 Ivanhoe Road, Camberwell, London.

He joined the army in 1941 and was attached to 204 Battery, 95th Heavy Anti Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery, that arrived in India on 11 April 1942. His service number was 11259456. He was admitted to the 47th British General Hospital  where he died from a liver abscess caused by Hepatitis B, a tropical gastrointestinal disorder, aged 39 years, on 29 September 1942 and is , at the Calcutta (Bhowanipore) Cemetery, 15 Debendra Lal Khan Road, Alipore, Kolkata - 700027, West Bengal, India. Probate records showed his address to have been East Lyss, College Road, Camberley. Administration of his estate was granted to his father, a retired carpenter, on 8 December 1943 and his effects totalled £145-18s-10d.

He is shown as 'TRIGG  R.H.W.' on the Western Postal District war memorial at Mount Pleasant, London, WC1 and on the . He is also commemorated on the and on .
