Hannah Brown

Mrs Hannah Brown was Angela Burdett-Coutts' governess and long-time companion. At we learn that her husband was "Dr. William Brown. Hannah Meredith, before her marriage in 1844, was Angela’s governess, having been appointed in 1826. She remained with the Burdett family and when Angela inherited the Coutts fortune in 1837 Hannah Meredith become her female companion, a live-in role that Hannah played until her own death in 1878. Diana Orton {in her 1980 biography 'Made of gold'} states on pp. 101 – 102 when writing on the Meredith-Brown marriage that 'Angela was not losing a companion but gaining a resident physician and adviser, for Dr. Brown gave up his medical partnership and moved with Hannah into apartments in the spacious Piccadilly mansion.' "

'' by Margaret Downing, March 2009 informs that Dr Brown died in 1855. Hannah died after a long illness and Angela went into deep mourning.
