Born Camden Place, Southampton Street, Camberwell. Bibliographer and forger. An authority on the lives and works of Shelley and Keats. He also had a lifelong career in the Post Office and was awarded the C.B. in 1897. In 1887, in association with Thomas James Wise, he started to publish a series of forgeries, including ‘unknown’ works by a number of poets (some still living). The deceptions were not discovered until 1934. Died 46 Marlborough Hill, St John’s Wood.
