Also known as the Palace of Westminster, it comprises the House of Commons and the House of Lords. Following a fire in 1834 which destroyed most of the old parliament, a competition was held for the design of the reconstruction. This was won by Sir Charles Barry, and the current buildings were erected between 1840 and 1870.
There is a piece of this building, or possibly an earlier one, at the Tribune Tower in Chicago, in their brick and rock collection. has a photo of a small sculpted head labelled in the stone alongside as "House of Parliament, London, England".
