Architect. Baptized at St Giles Cripplegate. He was apprenticed to the Carpenters' Company in 1721 under Thomas Ripley, who secured posts for him at Windsor Castle and Greenwich. His most complete surviving building is Clifton Hill House, Bristol. Died at Frognall Hall, Hampstead.

With the two other architects Sir Herbert Baker and Alexander T Scott, Vernon Helbing built London House, Goodenough College in WC1 in 1972. It is now Grade II listed.
