Soldier. Born in Crumlin, Ireland. in January 1941, he volunteered for the British army and was assigned to 256 Company, Royal Pioneer Corps and deployed to Birkenhead. On the night of 13/14th March 1941, the town was subjected to heavy bombing. Scully protected a couple trapped in a ruined house which was in danger of collapsing. Rescue workers laboured for over seven hours to clear the rubble, and all three survived. For his actions, Scully was awarded the George Cross.
