James Pullen

James Pullen

Member of the Building Committee to build the 1909 Bethnal Green Town Hall.

We are not certain that the J. Pullen on the Town Hall plaque is the alderman and well-known butcher described below, but it seems very likely.

have an entry titled "Records of James Pullen, butcher of Green Street, Bethnal Green, 1920s-1960".  This includes "Studio portrait of Alderman James Pullen (1867-1931) in regalia". In more detail, the photographs available are: "1 - Studio photograph of James Pullen senior (1867-1931) 2 - Photographs 3 - History of J. Pullen butcher's shop, 197 Green Street, Bethnal Green, early 1900s - October 1960."

has a photo of James Pullen Jnr. in his butcher's apron, but he is not our man.

Note: Green Street was renamed to become part of Roman Road, probably 1936-9.
