Labour leader and politician. Born John Elliott Burns in Vauxhall. in 1889 he played a major part in the London dock strike. Entered parliament in 1892. Appointed president of the Board of Trade in 1914. Died in the Bolingbroke Hospital, Wandsworth.

Statesman. Born Germany. His English grandfather was involved in the Rhineland trade and had married and settled there. His family moved to Chelsea when he was 6. Died at his farm near Canterbury.
