John Emmerson

John Emmerson was born circa 1905.

He was living at 96a Columbia Buildings, Hassard Street, Bethnal Green, London, with Margaret Emmerson (c.1906-1940) and their two sons John Emmerson (1931-1940) and Patrick Emmerson (1938-1940), when he was injured by a German bomb that fell on the Columbia Market air raid shelter on the night of 7th/8th September 1940. He was taken to St Leonard's Hospital, Nuttall Street, London, N1, where he died on 8 September 1940.

His death was registered as aged 35 years in the 3rd quarter of 1940 in the Shoreditch Registration District, London. It is not known where his .

He is shown as 'EMMERSON JOHN 35' on the Columbia Market air raid shelter memorial in the Rose Garden, Old Market Square, Ravenscroft Park, London, E2.

He is also commemorated on the , on the  and in  that is kept just outside the entrance to St George's Chapel at the west end of Westminster Abbey.
