He was living at 96a Columbia Buildings, Hassard Street, Bethnal Green, London, with his parents John Emmerson (c.1905-1940) and Margaret Emmerson (c.1906-1940) and his brother Patrick Emmerson (1938-1940), when he was killed by a German bomb that fell on the Columbia Market air raid shelter on the night of 7th/8th September 1940.
