Major John Innes Brown III was born on 13 January 1920 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, USA, the son of John William Brown (1887-1955) and Cleone Henrietta Brown née Taggart (1898-1994).

He was awarded the Air Medal with 4 oak leaf clusters, the World War II Victory Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 bronze stars.
After the war he married Barbara Allison Gorham (1919-2008) on 11 January 1947 in Cook County, Illinois, USA, and they had a daughter. The marriage did not last and after their divorce he married Dona J Zalewski (1927-2020) on 6 August 1951 in Elizabeth City County, Virginia, USA.
He died, aged 79 years, on 25 July 1999 in San Diego, San Diego County, California, USA and was buried , 1700 Cabrillo Memorial Drive, San Diego.
