John Sinnott VC

Soldier. Born in Wexford, Ireland. He was a lance corporal in the 84th regiment of the British army. On 8th October at Lucknow during the Indian Mutiny, he and two other soldiers went out to rescue a lieutenant who had been mortally wounded while carrying water to extinguish a fire. They brought in the body whilst under heavy fire, and Sinnott was twice wounded. For his actions he was awarded the Victoria Cross.
