John Whittaker Dilworth

Auxiliary fireman killed in an air raid on Poplar.

From the : "John Whittaker-Dilworth lived at 107 Hindle House, Arcola Street, Hackney E8 with his wife Hilda Dilworth. He was employed in the Auxiliary Fire Service (AFS) in Bethnal Green."

He was 26. Just 8 days after John's death a bomb fell on the flats where he and Hilda lived, killing 7 of their neighbours. It's difficult to imagine Hilda's state of mind at this time; and many people in London were experiencing similar or worse events.
