Ken Colyer

Cornetist and trumpeter. Born in Great Yarmouth. When he was in the merchant navy, he jumped ship in Mobile, Alabama and travelled to New Orleans where he joined the George Lewis band. He was eventually deported back to Britain, and played with several bands before forming his own. He became ill with stomach cancer and was advised to give up leading his band. He continued with a solo career, occasionally performing with other groups. Died France.
